LIFESTAR’s High Risk Obstetrical Transport Team at Northwest Texas Healthcare System

The area’s longest serving critical care air-medical program, LIFESTAR, is dedicated to providing prompt and efficient transport for high-risk obstetrical patients with their High Risk Obstetrical (HROB) Flight Team. With the goal of improving neonatal outcomes, LIFESTAR’s focus is on intrauterine transport. LIFESTAR is a service line of Northwest Texas Healthcare System, serving as the regions most experienced critical care transport air medical program in the Texas Panhandle, Oklahoma, Kansas, and New Mexico.

The HROB Flight Team consists of a critical care primary flight nurse and a specialized high risk OB registered nurse with intensive training in high risk obstetrics. LIFESTAR operates two helicopters and a fixed wing aircraft, all of which are available 24/7, and provide highly specialized care and equipment during transport of pregnant women who require a higher level of care, for conditions such as pre-term labor, preeclampsia, sepsis and so forth.

The specialized group of nurses is led by Robert Carrasco, MD. He stated, “Providing high level obstetrical care and transport for the women of the tri-state area is our vision.”

Mark Crawford, CEO at Northwest Texas Healthcare System stated, “Having immediate access to this method of transfer allows our High Risk OB Transport Team to provide the highest level of care and service, depending on the patient’s needs, acuity and distance.” Mr. Crawford also stated, “Our team provides compassionate, family-centered and professional care to meet the needs of patients and families during these difficult times.”
