Northwest Texas Healthcare System in Amarillo, Texas, a 495-bed acute care facility and medical center, has been providing high quality medical care to the residents of Northwest Texas since 1924. As a designated tertiary care academic institution, the hospital provides patients with advanced technological innovations for diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of clinical conditions. We are well known nationally for our heart, emergency, stroke and children's care. We are fully accredited by the Joint Commission and licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services Regulatory Licensing Unit; we are also a Joint-Commission-certified Advanced Primary Stroke Center.

Emergency and Urgent Care

The Texas Department of State Health Services has designated Northwest Texas Healthcare System as the Lead Trauma Facility for the top 26 counties within the Texas Panhandle. As a Level III Trauma facility, the Northwest Texas Healthcare emergency department cares for more than 57,000 patients each year.

Our emergency and urgent care services have expanded to three freestanding locations: Northwest Emergency at Town Square, a satellite emergency room staffed with the same personnel and equipment available in Northwest Texas Healthcare's hospital-based emergency department, and two walk-in, urgent-care facilities for less serious conditions such as colds, flu or minor injuries.

Heart Hospital

Northwest Texas Healthcare System is well known for its exceptional cardiac care through its Heart Hospital. We were recognized as a 'high performing' hospital in heart failure (and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) for the second year in a row, in the 2016-2017 rankings by U.S. News & World Report. Our accredited Chest Pain Center offers rapid, round-the-clock, evidence-based treatment of heart attack and suspected heart attack. The center is accredited by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care, an institute of the American College of Cardiology. To receive accreditation, a center must show that it combines evidence-based science, quality initiatives, clinical guidelines and best practices to produce an effective care model for heart attack and suspected heart attack.

Northwest Children's Hospital

Northwest Children's Hospital of Northwest Texas Healthcare System offers more than 40 pediatric subspecialties and serves as the Texas Panhandle's primary healthcare provider for children. Our general pediatrics unit is widely respected for its progressive medical services and advanced technology. The hospital is part of the Alliance Regional Health Network, so you and your child can take advantage of the expertise of nearly 50 pediatricians and specialists throughout the network.
