Northwest Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Recognized with National Award for Clinical Excellence

Northwest Texas Healthcare System received the Center of Distinction award, which was given to Northwest Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Center by Healogics®, the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services. The Center achieved outstanding clinical outcomes for 12 consecutive months, including patient satisfaction higher than 92 percent and a minimum wound healing rate of at least 91 percent within 28 median days to heal. There were 635 centers eligible for the Center of Distinction award, but only 427 achieved the honor.

Northwest Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Center is a member of the Healogics network of nearly 700 Wound Care Centers® and provides access to benchmarking data and proven experience, treating approximately 2.5 million chronic wounds. The Center is also accredited through the Undersea Hyperbaric Medical Society. This accreditation indicates the highest industry standards and best practices in hyperbaric treatment. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a sophisticated technology that accelerates the delivery of oxygen to the body’s tissue to promote healing. For certain wounds, hyperbaric oxygen treatment can significantly improve healing outcomes.

Northwest Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy offers highly specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds which have not healed in a reasonable amount of time. Advanced treatments include negative pressure wound therapy, bio-engineered skin substitutes, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, biological and biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies.

"Northwest Texas Hospital is very proud of the work done at the Wound Care Center by the leadership and staff,” said Brian Weis, MD, Chief Medical Director at Northwest. He continues, “They provide a valuable service to patients who suffer from the presence of poorly-healing wounds through the application of cutting edge biologics and wound care technology. Many members of our community have benefited from the compassionate care provided at the Wound Care Center.”

Amanda Heartman, MD, Medical Director at Northwest Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Center, stated, “I could not be more proud of all our staff who contribute to our success and high quality of care. I am honored to have our efforts recognized with the Center of Distinction award and look forward to continuing in serving the people of Amarillo and the Panhandle.”
